Lowell Martinson is a native of Starbuck, Minnesota with his parents and four older brothers. After serving 6 years in the National Guard, he enlisted in the Army for a three-year term. He held the position of Still Photographer in the Public Affairs Office. While stationed in Seoul, Korea he held top-secret clearance and was honored to spend twenty-three days documenting the destruction of the North Korean guard post at the “Bridge Of No Return” in the DMZ. On completion of his term, Lowell was accepted into the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California.
Lowell’s studies earned him a Bachelor of Arts degree in Commercial Photography and color technology, which included 4X5, and 8X10 view cameras, medium format cameras, and 35mm formats, including the Technical Lighting that Brooks Institute is known for world wide, which covers lighting of any subject a photographer would come upon.
After graduation Lowell found success with his own studio in San Francisco, California. A few of his commercial clients included: Mervyns, Saks Fifth Avenue, Ross, Apple Computers, Atari, Monsanto, and Gumps, etc.
Lowell now had a growing young family and missed the rural lifestyle and values of farming communities. His passion for large format nature photography, the beauty of the “Golden Triangle”, and the rural lifestyle, brought his talents to Redding, California.
Lowell’s twenty-three years in the photography/film industry and his commitment to quality have perfected his techniques in commercial, portraiture, weddings, and fine art photography. His abilities with the 8X10 format camera place him in the top of advertising photographers of Northern California. Lowell has taught, and intends to continue teaching, classes in technical lighting and composition for various types of photography. His current portfolio is filled with many North State and International clients – from Semi Conductor to Hair Care Products, from Jewelry to excellent Wines, from Medical to Weddings, from antique Guns to Architecture, from Catalogues to Fine Art. To this day, living in the Golden Triangle and capturing the great outdoors, is still Lowell’s passion.
